TRAVEL: THE BEAUTIFUL GUIMARAS ISLAND

happygoloca

Guimaras Island is well known for having the sweetest mangoes in the world. Guimaras is actually close by the city of Iloilo and you can reach the island through a 20-minute pumpboat ride. This small island in Panay Gulf is one of the favorite tourist destinations which has pristine beaches with rich coral reefs in some areas and historical and religious attractions. There are a lot of hiking spots in the island and biking trails also. Indeed, a best place for nature trip.

There are a lot of wonderful white sand beaches and resorts in the island but in my latest visits, these two resorts are my favorites. On the first half is the Guisi Lighthouse and beach. With a bit of hike, you can reach the lighthouse and ruins. Even though the area is kinda creepy, it is still a sight to behold.

Then going down, you will find Guisi beach. It was low tide already when we decided to hit the water. The good thing about the beaches in Guimaras is that it is well-preserved and not commercialized where you could rarely find beach umbrellas and stuff. It is almost like a virgin island that's why you have to be cautious for some sea creatures. You can hang out on the shore and feel the calmness of nature.

Next is my most favorite place in Guimaras which is Tatlong Pulo. It is actually a private beach with limited access to public. They do not have any facilities at all. You can only find nipa huts which you could rent for your stay or bring your own tent if you plan to sleep by the beach which I highly recommend. Even if there is no electricity and limited cellular signal in the area, the place was worthy and the best place to zone out and getaway from the city. But it is quite difficult to reach the place since you have to take a 30-45 minutes hike. Aside from food and enough battery for your phone and camera, you must bring your snorkeling gear since the coral reefs are pretty much alive and a lot of sea creatures could be found. We even crossed the water when it was low tide and reached the two small islands across the shore. But you have to be careful and always watch your moves as not to harm the living things underwater.

You can also visit the San Lorenzo Windmills which supplies the energy of the whole province. It is actually stunning with the wind turbine blades surrounding you.

The most popular Mango Pizza in The Pitstop is a must try when you're in Guimaras. You should discover the incredible taste of this pizza as well as the rest of the mango infused dishes they have invented.

Guimaras may be small but it has so much to offer and their beaches would always be on the top of my list because it is very calm, pure, and just majestic. Always the best place to zone out and just breathe.

Love and Peace.
